Trump Media & Technology Group (NASDAQ:DJT) stock rose in early trading Monday after the attempted assassination of former U.S. President Donald Trump over the weekend.

The stock was up nearly 40 per cent at the market’s open Monday and maintained that momentum after Trump received some good news regarding one of his numerous legal battles.

Later Monday, the federal judge overseeing Trump’s classified documents case in Florida, District Judge Aileen Cannon dismissed the prosecution. The judge agreed with the defense lawyers’ argument that the special counsel who brought the charges was appointed unlawfully. CNN reported that said the appointment of special counsel Jack Smith violated the Constitution.

On Saturday at a rally at Butler, Pennsylvania, the former president was shot at. He was seen being escorted off the stage with a bloody ear by Secret Service agents. The suspected gunman also killed another person at the rally and critically wounded two others before he was killed by agents protecting Trump.

In a news statement issued shortly after the attempted assassination, Trump Media & Technology Group CEO Devin Nunes said, this situation demands a fast, thorough federal investigation to determine all the circumstances of this attack and to identify if anyone else was involved.

“I also call for the federal government to provide any security resources requested by President Trump to guarantee his safety. America will overcome this despicable shooting and together, our nation will endure.”

According to gunviolencearchive.org, there have been at least 295 mass shootings in the U.S. in 2024 (as of July 12).

Trump Media & Technology Group Corp. was founded by Donald Trump in 2021 and describes its mission as ending Big Tech’s assault on free speech by opening up the internet and giving people their voices back.

Trump Media & Technology Group (NDAQ:DJT) opened trading at US$46.20 per share and has risen nearly 140 per cent year-to-date.
