Global Crossing Airlines (JET) has signed an airport and terminal use agreement with Atlantic City International Airport in New Jersey, USA.

Headquartered in Miami, Florida, the early-stage airline operator, operating as GlobalX, intends to fly as a wet lease charter serving the US, Caribbean and Latin American markets.

GlobalX considers the Atlantic City International Airport to be an ideally located northern charter base of operations due to its close proximity to major metropolitan hubs in the northeast of the country.

Of key importance, the company says, will be scheduled charters into the New Jersey region from Toronto and Montreal, as well as other US cities, to facilitate the substantial hotel and casino business in Atlantic City. Such flights are expected to begin by the summer of 2021.

In conjunction with the South Jersey Transportation Authority, which operates Atlantic City International Airport, GlobalX is also exploring the opportunity to sign a land lease agreement for the development of a new hangar and maintenance facility at the airport.

Stephen Dougherty, Executive Director of the South Jersey Transportation Authority, said the organisation is excited about the partnership with GlobalX.

“We are thrilled GlobalX has chosen ACY for their northern charter base of operations.

“We look forward to working with GlobalX on developing a presence at the Airport, within Atlantic County, and throughout the South Jersey region,” he added.

Separately, GlobalX sought to bolster its leadership team with the appointment of Christian Toro as Vice President of Technical Operations and Director of Maintenance. With 35 years of industry experience, he previously held senior positions at both Southwest Airlines and Allegiant Airlines.

Global Crossing Airlines (JET) is up 7.26 per cent and is trading at C$1.33 per share at 2:46pm EDT.
