Military technology company, KWESST Micro Systems (KWE) has received “Patent Pending” status for an improved digital aiming system product.

The invention, called Polaris, improves the accuracy of military weapons systems by using micro-optical and computer vision technology.

Currently, many digital aiming systems used by the military to deploy weapons can suffer from inaccuracy due to various factors. Polaris is able to bypass these inaccuracies through digital aiming, which is not affected by magnetic fields, shock or recoil, or gradual drift in location bearings.

In doing so, Polaris is able to produce an accuracy in aiming that is usually only seen in smart weapons systems.

Polaris is a compatible enhancement product which works with digital aiming systems for military weapons. In particular, it works with KWESST’s Tactical And Situational Control System (TASCS) and Integrated Fires Module (IFM).

Combined with the Polaris enhancement, the TASCS IFM product consists of an app and snap-on device which provides accurate visual indication of points of impact.

KWESST believes that Polaris will not only make its products more effective, but also more appealing to its customer base.

The company’s President and CEO, Jeff MacLeod, commented on how Polaris will add to the company’s current sales.

“Polaris is an important enhancement to KWESST’s TASCS and IFM system, which we believe will make this whole technology set even more compelling for military customers as they seek to improve the precision and utility of existing weapons systems.

“While developed to work with our TASCS IFM module, Polaris could be implemented on non-competing fire control systems sold by other manufacturers,” he said.

KWESST Micro Systems (KWE) is up 2.5 per cent and is trading at C$0.82 per share at 1:24pm EDT.
