- Magna International (MG) has said it will collaborate with Fisker to develop an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS)
- The system will be used in the Fisker Ocean SUV, which is scheduled for launch in late 2022
- It follows a separate agreement signed last October between the two companies, under which Magna will manufacture the Ocean SUV in Europe
- Separately, Seetarama “Swamy” Kotagiri has formally taken over as CEO of Magna, pursuant to an October 20 announcement
- Magna International is currently down 2.24 per cent to C$88.09 per share
Magna International (MG) has said it will collaborate with Fisker to develop an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).
Headquartered in California, NYSE-listed Fisker was launched in 2016 and develops highly-sustainable electric vehicles.
The ADAS platform, which will include a suite of software packages powered by a scalable domain controller architecture, will be applied to the Fisker Ocean SUV, which has been scheduled for launch in late 2022.
In addition to cameras and ultrasonic sensors, the ADAS will also feature a unique digital imaging radar technology -ICON RADAR – that has been co-developed with Austin, Texas-based technology startup Uhnder, and is the first digital imaging single-chip radar solution for the automotive marketplace.
“The ability to integrate Fisker-Intelligent Pilot technologies into the Fisker Ocean SUV from launch is mission-critical for the whole program,” said Henrik Fisker, Chairman and CEO of Fisker.
“The excellent collaboration between the Fisker and Magna engineering teams, already proven by passing the first engineering milestone last November, gave us the confidence to work with Magna on these important technologies for the Ocean,” he added.
The collaboration follows a vehicle engineering and manufacturing agreement that was signed between Magna and Fisker in October last year, under which Magna has agreed to produce Fisker’s Ocean SUV in Europe.
“One of our strategic goals is to pursue new business in areas where Magna’s unique strengths can be deployed with an advantage compared to our peers,” said Swamy Kotagiri, CEO of Magna International.
“Our collaboration with Fisker is a great example – we can provide a new OEM like Fisker with a flexible and scalable EV platform, complete ADAS package, joint vehicle engineering and manufacturing,” he added.
Separately, today marks Swamy’s first day as CEO of Magna, pursuant to an October 20 announcement which outlined the retirement of Don Walker, who had served as CEO of the company from 1994 to 2001, and again from 2005.
Magna International is currently down 2.24 per cent to C$88.09 per share at 11:33am EST.
