Alabama State University has opened its 2021 basketball season using Draganfly Technologies’ (DFLY) products.

The drone company’s Vital Intelligence system was one of the products utilized to help create a safe return to athletics during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Vital Intelligence system is a data platform that turns existing cameras into touchless symptom detection systems that are able to measure social distancing and vital signs like temperature, cough and respiratory rate. The goal is to identify high-risk visitors who may have the virus.

Through Draganfly’s drone capabilities, the university also utilized the Varigard 24 hour pathogen sequestration and kill sanitizing spray as another means to help reopen the 2021 College basketball season in Alabama.

Alabama State University’s game against Grambling State University on January 2 marked the official return-to-play for the Southwestern Athletic Conference. ASU President, Dr. Quinton T. Ross, Jr., said before players got on the court, Draganfly drones sprayed the basketball arena with the Varigard sanitizer.

“Technology such as Draganfly’s Vital Intelligence and Varigard Sanitizer is a worthy investment and is a vital part of our overall campus safety protocols,” Ross said.

Ross said the university will continue to partner with Draganfly throughout the season.

Draganfly is part of the National Safely Opening Schools initiative (SOS), an end-to-end protocol composed of companies that provide health screening, testing, medical personnel, equipment, sanitization and data analysis to help ensure the safe operation of facilities.

Draganfly board advisor Derek Anderson said the technology Draganfly is employing will help get schools and their programs up and running again.

“The SOS initiative with Draganfly is key to ensuring we have sustainable health security for all facilities for years to come,” he added.

Draganfly has headquarters in both Canada and the U.S.

Draganfly is up 6.17 per cent and is trading for C$0.86 per share, as of 2:48pm EST.
