Kopin Corp. (NASDAQ:KOPN) has received a $21.5 million follow‑on production contract from a major U.S. defense prime contractor. The award supports the manufacture of a custom thermal‑imaging eyepiece assembly for a man‑portable military weapons platform.

The contract adds to Kopin’s existing backlog and reflects continued demand for its U.S.‑manufactured vision systems used in defense and national security applications. The eyepiece module is a key component of a detachable thermal weapon system designed for deployment in varied and hostile environments.

According to the company, the assembly integrates several internally produced elements, including a microdisplay, precision optical components, drive electronics, and a ruggedized enclosure intended for field operations. The system enables day‑ and night‑time detection and engagement capabilities for military users operating in challenging conditions.

Kopin stated that the follow‑on order builds on prior production deliveries associated with the same platform, underscoring its role as a long‑term supplier to U.S. defense programs. The company emphasized that all elements of the eyepiece assembly are manufactured domestically, aligning with broader efforts to strengthen U.S. supply chain resilience and reduce reliance on foreign‑sourced components for mission‑critical technologies.

The award comes amid heightened global security concerns and continued investment by the U.S. Department of Defense in advanced sensing, targeting, and situational‑awareness technologies. Thermal imaging and optical systems remain a focus area as militaries seek to enhance soldier effectiveness while operating across a range of environments.

“By manufacturing these thermal weapon‑sight modules domestically, we strengthen the defense industrial base and ensure our warfighters have access to equipment that performs in the harshest conditions,” Iwan Dodd, SVP of business development and strategy, said in a news release. “We are proud to support those who protect our nation by delivering technology that enhances survivability and operational advantage.”

Kopin Corp. operates a vertically integrated manufacturing model, producing microdisplays and optical subsystems within the United States. Management has previously highlighted this approach as a competitive advantage when supporting defense programs that prioritize security, reliability, and supply availability.

The company reported that it has delivered more than 400,000 vision‑system solutions across multiple generations of defense platforms to date. These systems are deployed across applications that include soldier‑borne devices, training systems, and other mission‑critical equipment.

In addition to defense programs, Kopin supplies optical and display technologies to enterprise, industrial, consumer, and medical markets. The company has positioned defense and government contracts as a core part of its long‑term growth strategy, supported by ongoing investments in proprietary display technologies and advanced optical solutions.

Kopin Corp. stock (NASDAQ:KOPN) opened trading roughly 2 per cent higher at US$4.79 and has risen more than 250 per cent since this time last year.
