Zefiro Methane: Millions of Wells in Its Sights
Even investors looking to invest sustainably cannot ignore the oil industry. That is because it also offers opportunities for investors. Two hundred years of industrialization have left their mark on North America as well. Estimates suggest there are between two and four million orphaned or abandoned oil and gas wells in the United States alone. Companies abandoned them, went bankrupt, or simply moved on. What they left behind are production facilities that continue to release gas into the atmosphere. Among the emissions is methane, which is highly damaging to the climate. These emissions result from simple leaks, material defects, or simply poor workmanship.
Zefiro Methane specializes in precisely this type of leak and has developed its own technologies to address the problem. The company deploys its own teams and drilling rigs to permanently plug these leaks with cement and specialized sealants. Zefiro benefits from initiatives launched by US states and the federal government in Washington, which have brought the issue into focus. The federal legislation granted USD 4.7 billion to companies to remediate sites of potential methane leaks across the United States.
Major Contract in the Great Lakes Region
Zefiro Methane has now secured another project of this kind. The company reported an USD 11.5 million contract for a state-funded project in the Great Lakes region in the northeastern United States. The project will last about 2.5 years and run through June 2029. In an initial phase between November of this year and June 2027, the Canadian company will receive a first tranche of approximately USD 3 million. The remaining balance of USD 8.5 million will then be earned by June 2029. This not only expands Zefiro Methane’s order book but also helps the company build further reputation in the market. In 2025, for example, the company received a USD 19.6 million contract from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. In total, Zefiro plugged more than 200 wells last year.

Data Centres as Another Growth Driver
Zefiro Methane’s growth potential remains substantial. After all, thousands of additional wells are still waiting to be addressed. In addition, the company is increasingly being sought out as a partner for infrastructure projects, particularly in the construction of AI data centres. When abandoned wells are discovered on sites earmarked for these multibillion-dollar projects, action needs to be taken quickly, because given the scale of these projects, time is literally money. With a massive number of data centres expected to be built across the US in the coming years, Zefiro could also secure many contracts in this area.
The CO₂ Credit Market as a Source of Revenue
According to the company, the market itself is valued at around USD 400 billion. Zefiro Methane, however, earns revenue not only by plugging the orphaned wells but also through CO₂ credits, known as carbon credits. This involves measuring the amount of methane that would otherwise escape into the atmosphere without intervention. Based on this data, the results are converted into CO₂ equivalents under officially recognized standards. For every metric ton of CO₂ equivalent prevented, Zefiro receives a tradable CO₂ certificate, which is then sold through its own trading division to large corporations, energy companies, and financial institutions. In addition, Zefiro is banking on growth driven by strong partners. Just a few weeks ago, the company announced a strategic partnership with the Well Done Foundation. This nonprofit organization specializes in plugging abandoned oil and gas wells. Zefiro also reported receiving a contract from the NGO, though it did not disclose the amount.
Major Contract Sends Stock Higher – Breakout Ahead?
Zefiro Methane’s stock surged sharply on its home exchange following the announcement of the latest major contract. This could be just the beginning of a larger upward trend, as Zefiro currently has a market capitalization of approximately EUR 42 million. In the bigger picture, the stock is still consolidating after its steep rise in the spring. The latest upward spike could now be the start of a breakout.
In any case, the research firm GBC is bullish on the stock. Analysts have set a price target of 2.12 CAD. This would give the stock the potential to triple in value!

Zefiro Methane combines environmental protection and sustainability with the potential for earnings growth in the years ahead. For investors, this presents an opportunity to participate in the company’s expansion while benefiting from a market driven by regulation and the need to address the legacy of oil and gas production.
