Canadian stocks lost ground Thursday as softer oil prices reduced inflation fears and shifted investor attention toward US inflation data. Canada and the European Union also agreed to expand their partnership but excluded a controversial associate EU membership proposal from a joint statement released ahead of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Montreal summit.

South of the border, US markets struggled thanks to a fresh wave of corporate earnings results. Neocloud stocks came under pressure after Microsoft’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) softer-than-expected capital spending figures suggested delays in data centre expansion by key infrastructure partners. Google parent Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOG) fell after it missed expectations on adjusted earnings per share and revenue in Q3 2026.
