Affinor Growers (AFI) has announced that it has received a patent in Colombia for vertical growing towers for automated horticulture and agriculture.

The company’s vertical farming towers are able to be used sustainably to grow fruits, vegetables and cannabis in indoor facilities and greenhouses.

The towers are a part of a vertical farming technology solution that includes automation, water conservation, soil remediation and alternative energies.

Affinor Growers said these towers are able to maintain plants, increase yield and lower production costs among others.

The company said it anticipates being able to offer this technology for licensing sometime next year when patent protection has been notched.

Affinor Growers first notched patent for its towers from the US Patent and Trademark Office in November of last year.

Nick Brusatore, CEO of Affinor Growers, said he anticipates the company will receive additional patents in the coming year from other countries.

“Affinor’s simplistic, yet intricate ecological approach will define the future of vertical farming. I look forward to unveiling the next automated lines for herbs and high-demand leafy greens like kale, spinach and romaine lettuce,” he said in a press release. “Our technology not only combats climate change and sustainability issues, but also assists countries to become more self-sufficient in high-quality food production.”

Shares of the company are unchanged at $0.03 as of 1:41 p.m. EDT
