Air Canada (TSX:AC) is expanding its presence in the European market as part of its international summer 2024 flying schedule.

The expanded schedule will be equivalent to operating at 100 per cent of the airline’s peak summer 2019 trans-Atlantic capacity. Management is making the move because of a strong recovery in what amounts to its largest international market.

New additions include a year-round route between Montreal and Madrid beginning in May 2024, as well as three daily flights from Toronto and Montreal to Rome, and daily services to Milan and Venice.

Travelers will also be able to choose between 51 routes to 30 cities in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and India, making Air Canada the leading Canadian carrier across the Atlantic in summer 2024. The airline is focused on growing its trans-Atlantic footprint in the coming years, with Toronto and Montreal ranking third and fifth largest in North America in terms of average daily trans-Atlantic seats.

“Air Canada saw a tremendous rebound in international flying this past summer, particularly on the trans-Atlantic, and we expect Europe will remain popular next year. In anticipation of this, we are expanding our flying schedule to offer customers more choice and flexibility as they begin to plan their 2024 holidays,” Mark Galardo, executive vice president of revenue and network planning at Air Canada, said in a statement.
