Artemis Gold: USD 427 Million Deal Creates a Gold Giant

Artemis Gold is leveraging the strength of the gold market to take its next major step toward growth. The Canadian producer has entered into a binding agreement to acquire Vista Gold. The deal values Vista at approximately USD 427 million and is to be paid entirely in Artemis shares. No new debt is planned for the transaction. Vista shareholders will receive 0.0966 Artemis shares per share, which, based on the 20-day average price prior to the announcement, represents a 29% premium.

The real treasure, however, is Mt Todd in Australia’s Northern Territory. The project holds 9.1 million ounces of gold in the Measured and Indicated categories, plus an additional 1.4 million ounces in the Inferred category. Key permits for a plant with a daily capacity of 50,000 metric tons have already been granted. Artemis is thus acquiring a highly advanced development project in an established mining region.

Blackwater in British Columbia remains the existing core asset. The Phase 1A expansion is underway there and is expected to increase nominal processing capacity from six to eight million metric tons per year. As of early August, the project was 57% complete, with commissioning scheduled for the fourth quarter. EP2 is next on the agenda. Upon its completion, Artemis expects annual production of more than 500,000 ounces at Blackwater.

Mt Todd could then spark the next stage of growth. Artemis itself sees Blackwater and a developed Mt Todd as a potential path to more than one million ounces of annual production.

Desert Gold Ventures: Barani East Takes Shape

While major gold companies invest billions in existing mines and reserves, Desert Gold Ventures is at a much earlier, and thus more promising, point in the value chain. At the 100%-owned SMSZ project in western Mali, the company’s first in-house gold processing facility at Barani East is taking shape. The gravity separation plant and 650-kVA generator have now arrived on site. The access road and site have been prepared, construction materials have been delivered, and civil engineering work has progressed.

With this, Desert Gold is taking an important step from being a traditional explorer toward operational development. The SMSZ project covers approximately 440 km² along the gold-rich Senegal-Mali Shear Zone. In addition, Desert Gold holds an option to acquire a 90% stake in the 297 km² Tiegba project in Côte d’Ivoire. This gives the company access to an extensive exploration portfolio in two major West African gold regions.

At Barani, a compact gravity separation plant with a capacity of 200 metric tons per day is under construction. Once the key components arrive, the remaining civil engineering work, as well as the mechanical and electrical installations, is set to be completed. Commissioning is scheduled for the end of October, with ramp-up and initial processing to follow in November. The company continues to aim for initial gold production in the fourth quarter.

This could become a decisive step for the investment story. Desert Gold has not yet reported any mineral reserves for Barani, and the construction of the facility is not based on a feasibility study demonstrating economic viability. However, if the ramp-up proceeds as planned, Desert Gold would process its own mineralized material and produce gold for the first time. This could transform the company from a traditional exploration story into a much more operational gold story.

Desert Gold will present live at the International Investment Forum (IIF) on October 7 – Registration is free!

i-80 Gold: Feasibility Study Drives Revaluation

At i-80 Gold, it is a project already in production that is currently driving the share price. For the Granite Creek underground mine in Nevada, the company has presented a positive feasibility study and reported mineral reserves for the first time. The project is located at the intersection of the well-known Battle Mountain-Eureka and Getchell gold trends and is currently being ramped up further. i-80 expects to produce 30,000 to 40,000 ounces of gold in 2026.

The financial projections become particularly interesting when considering the gold price. Based on a price of USD 2,750 per ounce, the study arrives at a net present value (NPV5) of USD 118 million after taxes. At a gold price of USD 4,500, this value rises to a whopping USD 598 million.

Granite Creek is, moreover, only part of the story. i-80 focuses entirely on Nevada and holds one of the larger gold resource portfolios there. The company is pursuing a funded three-phase development plan to expand its projects incrementally. In addition to Granite Creek, this includes the Lone Tree infrastructure, whose modernization, according to the company, remained on schedule and within budget as of late July.

This gives i-80 a boost precisely at a time when the gold price is redefining the economic viability of many deposits. Granite Creek illustrates this effect particularly clearly. Between the two gold price scenarios considered in the study, the calculated net present value increases approximately fivefold. This makes the stock an attractive way to gain exposure to a sustained high gold price level.

High gold prices are shifting the balance of power in the mining sector. With Mt Todd, Artemis Gold is securing a massive development project for USD 427 million and massively expanding its long-term production base. Desert Gold Ventures, on the other hand, is poised to make the leap from explorer to operating its own gold processing facility at Barani. And i-80 Gold is demonstrating, with Granite Creek, the enormous value leverage that a persistently high gold price can unleash. Three different stages of development—but all are benefiting from the fact that gold deposits are becoming increasingly valuable from a strategic perspective.
