AtkinsRéalis Group (TSX:ATRL), a global engineering and nuclear energy stock, has joined forces with United Utilities (PINK:UUGRY), the United Kingdom’s largest listed water company, on an up to £90 million environmental program to clean rivers, enhance water supply efficiency and improve utility services over the next 11 years.

AtkinsRéalis, one of three design and development partners under the program, will be tasked with creating sustainable and scalable designs for schemes across United Utilities’ water and wastewater sites and bio resource and rainwater management projects.

According to Wednesday’s news release, the environmental program is the largest in the northwest of England in more than a century. United Utilities expects the program to support 30,000 jobs, including 7,000 new jobs across the water company and its supply chain.

“The global water market faces huge challenges from increased demand and the impact of climate change, which is why we have a laser-like focus on supporting the sector in order to provide a secure supply of clean drinking water,” Ian L.
