BlackBerry (TSX:BB) software now embedded in over 215 million vehicles

Independent research firm Strategy Analytics has confirmed that BlackBerry’s (BB) QNX software is now embedded in more than 215 million vehicles worldwide.

This represents an increase of 20 million from last year.

The tech company also noted that its BlackBerry QNX royalty revenue backlog has increased to roughly $560 million at the end of its Q1 of Fiscal Year 2023, representing a 14% increase, from around $490 million last year.

Aiming to be a market leader in safety-critical embedded automotive software, the company’s Executive Chairman and CEO, John Chen stated that there has been consistent growth in vehicle count, from more than 16 million in 2013 to 215 million-plus today.

“Connected-autonomous vehicles are central to the development of smart cities, so as the two key markets that BlackBerry serves – IoT and Cybersecurity – converge into an interdependent and combined market, our growth in the automotive industry will accelerate the emergence of a trusted smart world.”

BlackBerry provides intelligent security software and services to enterprises and governments.

BlackBerry Limited (BB) is up 0.88 per cent and is trading at $6.85 per share as of 10:00 a.m. ET.
