Technology company, Blackline Safety (TSXV:BLN) has introduced contact-tracing capabilities to its cloud-hosted safety products.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, many countries are developing technology to assist in tracking infections. Blackline has launched a number of such tools for industrial worksites, where smartphones (and tracking apps) often aren’t allowed.

The company’s suite of tracing technology includes the Close Contact report, the Live History View, and the Loner Mobile app.

The Close Contact report is immediately available to all current and future customers of Blackline’s cloud-based analytics software. Through the G7 safety wearables, Close Contact will map the close interactions between employees during work hours.

Blackline’s Live History View helps in the event that a worker tests positive for COVID-19 or displays relevant symptoms. The technology will allow businesses to geographically retrace that worker’s steps, in order to check for social distancing breaches.

Finally, the company’s Loner Mobile smartphone app will provide contact-tracing for personnel when they are offsite.

Blackline stated that all of these tools comply with strict privacy regulations, including the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation.

Blackline’s Vice President of Sales and Product Management, Sean Stinson, commented on the launch.

“The COVID-19 outbreak only amplifies the need for connected safety technology at work. Organisations deemed essential have been forced to respond quickly with additional methods to ensure their workers remain safe.

“Our new contact-tracing tools will help businesses proactively monitor their social distancing performance. Should an employee contract COVID-19, or present with symptoms, this report will help them identify points of close employee contact inside their organisation,” he said.

Blackline Safety Corp (BLN) is up 6.02 per cent and trading at C$4.93 per share, as of 10:16am EST.
