Bombardier’s (TSX:BBD) flagship business jet, the Global 7500, has reached a new milestone in aviation history, setting 135 speed records — the most ever achieved by a single business aircraft type. The records, which include a range of long-distance city-pair flights, are recognized under the guidelines of the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), with some still pending official review.

Among the notable city-pair speed records set by the Global 7500 are routes such as Tokyo to San Francisco, London to Riyadh, Oakland to Tokyo, Hartford to Dubai, Tokyo to Toronto, and Montreal to Paris. These achievements are a sign of the aircraft’s performance capabilities in the ultra-long-range business jet category.
“Even more impressive is the fact some of these records have been set with passengers on board in varying conditions and airports,” Jean-Christophe Gallagher, executive vice president, aircraft sales and Bombardier Defense, said in a news release. ‘It’s a testament to how well engineered the aircraft is, ensuring customers fully benefit from the aircraft’s outstanding performance attributes for their everyday important missions.”
Since its entry into service, the Global 7500 has consistently demonstrated its range and speed. It previously set the record for the longest flight in business aviation history — an 8,225 nautical mile (15,232.7 km) journey from Sydney to Detroit. It also completed the longest non-stop mission from London City Airport to Los Angeles, a feat that highlights its short-field performance and intercontinental reach.
The Global 7500’s top speed is Mach 0.925 and a baseline range of 7,700 nautical miles (14,260 km). Its Smooth Flex Wing design, featuring advanced slats and flaps, enhances aerodynamic efficiency, reduces fuel burn, and contributes to a smoother ride. The wing’s engineering also supports improved takeoff and landing performance, particularly on shorter runways.
Looking ahead, Bombardier plans to build on the Global 7500’s success with the upcoming Global 8000. The new aircraft is expected to offer an extended range of 8,000 nautical miles (14,816 km) and a top speed of Mach 0.94. It will also feature a low cabin altitude of under 2,900 feet at cruising altitudes, aiming to improve passenger comfort on long-haul flights.
The Global 8000 is designed to maintain the short-field capabilities of its predecessor, enabling access to airports typically reserved for smaller jets. Bombardier positions the aircraft as a next-generation solution for customers seeking a combination of speed, range, and operational flexibility.
As the Global 7500 continues to set new benchmarks, Bombardier reinforces its position in the competitive business aviation market, with a focus on innovation, performance, and customer experience.
Bombardier designs, builds, modifies and maintains a line of jets for individuals, businesses, governments and militaries around the world. Its customers operate a fleet of more than 5,100 aircraft supported by 10 service facilities across six countries. The company operates aerostructure, assembly and completion facilities in Canada, the United States and Mexico.
Bombardier stock (TSX:BBD.A) opened trading down 1.13 per cent at C$160.99 but has risen 6.67 per cent this week. The stock has added 64.22 per cent since the year began and 66.08 per cent since this time last year.
