Bombardier (TSX:BBD) has announced that Sojitz Corp., a prominent Japanese general trading company and a leading provider of business jets in the region, has placed an order for two aircraft: the Global 6500 and the soon-to-enter-service Global 8000.

About the deal

The acquisition marks a significant step in the launch of Sojitz’s Share Jet Program (SJP), Japan’s first shared ownership initiative for large, ultra-long-range business jets. Designed to accommodate trans-Pacific travel, the program aims to offer a new level of accessibility and flexibility to business aviation clients in Japan.

The newly ordered aircraft will feature bespoke interiors tailored exclusively for SJP. According to Sojitz, every detail — from cabin layout to material selection — was curated to reflect the company’s elevated standards and vision for premium air travel. Bombardier collaborated closely with Sojitz to bring these designs to life, leveraging its experience in cabin craftsmanship.

“Our decision to select the Global 6500 and the Global 8000 was driven by our extensive experience operating Bombardier aircraft in Japan,” Yohei Sakurai, general manager, business jet department of Sojitz, said in a news release. “These aircraft have demonstrated exceptional reliability in our fleet, while Bombardier’s wide range of services and customer support consistently exceeds that of competitors in our experience. Their proven aircraft platforms and quality of service make them the ideal foundation for launching Japan’s first large-jet shared-ownership program.”

The Global 8000, Bombardier’s upcoming flagship model, currently under development and remains to be finalized and certified, is expected to play a central role in the program. The aircraft is engineered to deliver high-speed performance and extended range, while also offering a quiet cabin environment aimed at enhancing passenger comfort and productivity. It is positioned to be the fastest business jet in the world, combining speed, range, and advanced landing capabilities.

Sojitz’s move into shared ownership reflects a broader trend in the business aviation sector, where demand for flexible, long-range travel solutions continues to grow. The Share Jet Program is set to begin operations following the delivery of the aircraft, with further details expected in the coming months.

Decade-long service agreement in support of U.S. military program

Bombardier Defense and aerospace firm SNC have signed a 10-year service agreement covering two Global 6500 aircraft outfitted with SNC’s RAPCON-X technology.

The deal is tailored for high-usage operators, aiming to reduce operational costs through Bombardier’s Smart Services Defense program, which includes logistics, spare parts, technical support, and 24/7 customer service.

Under the agreement, Bombardier will manage fixed service costs for SNC, which operates the aircraft under a contractor-owned, contractor-operated (COCO) model for a U.S. military client.
