Candante Copper (DNT) has appointed Agustin Pichot, President of Fortescue South America, to its Board of Directors.

Agustin represents ASX-listed Fortescue Metals Group, which holds a 19.9 per cent stake in Candente Copper, and is responsible for the development of the company’s mining, energy and infrastructure business in the South American region.

Fortescue acquired the right to appoint one of its own to Candente’s board through a C$1.38 million investment that was completed earlier this year. Through its wholly owned subsidiary, Nascent Exploration, Fortescue acquired 27.5 million shares in Candente at $0.05 each.

Prior to joining Fortescue, he founded Pegas Group in 2000, which is one of South America’s largest sport media and marketing agencies. Agustin also worked in Argentina’s asset management and global investment sector from 2015 until 2018.

Until 2010, Agustin spent 16 years as a professional rugby player, representing both France and Argentina. He was appointed captain of the Argentinian team in 2000, following the World Cup, before moving to the French club Stade Français in 2003.

Agustin also served as an Executive Board Member for the Argentina Rugby Union and the International Rugby Board from 2011 until 2020. In addition, he forms part of the executive teams of two foundations: Fundación Enrique Alberto Pichot and the Minderoo Foundation.

Separately, Candente Copper has advised that John Black will not stand for re-election as Director at the upcoming Annual General Meeting in September. However, he will remain as an adviser to the company and as a member of the Cañariaco Norte Technical Committee, which is being formed in conjunction with Fortescue Metals Group.

Candente Copper (DNT) is currently up five per cent and is trading at 10 cents per share at 2:57pm EDT.
