D-BOX Technologies (DBO) and Mila have announced a partnership to use artificial intelligence (AI) for haptics and increase business productivity.

The specific aim of the agreement is to begin using automated encoding tools relying on machine learning. This will detect instances where motion, texture, and vibration could be integrated into audio and video content to create more immersive experiences using haptics.

With the development of automation tools, D-BOX will gain greater efficiency and be able to encode more movies and TV series every year.

Mila is a research institute in artificial intelligence that rallies nearly 900 researchers specializing in the field of machine learning.

Sébastien Mailhot, President and CEO of D-BOX commented on the news.

“Through this partnership, Mila will play a big part in developing deep learning for D-BOX’s haptic technology. With access to Mila’s top researchers and its partners, D-BOX will be able to considerably increase the pace of automation of haptic encoding for all audio and video content.”

Stéphane Létourneau, Executive Vice-President of Mila also provided his comments.

“The combination of AI and haptic technology has a multitude of promising applications. This partnership with D-BOX will allow Mila to work on many innovative projects in the field of entertainment.”

D-BOX redefines and creates realistic, immersive and haptic entertainment experiences by providing whole-body feedback and stimulating the imagination through movement. Haptics essentially allows for sensations that would be perceived if the body interacted directly with physical objects.

D-Box Technologies Inc. (DBO) was up 10.53 per cent, trading at C$0.105 per share at 4:20 pm ET.
