Descartes Systems (TSX:DSG) has been commissioned to improve Swissport International’s air cargo tracking technology.

Swissport is the largest airport ground services and air cargo handling agent in the world.

According to the arrangement, all of Swissport’s 115 cargo warehouses will now use Descartes Core Bluetooth Low Energy readers.

The technology allows airlines to track air cargo in real-time. In particular, Swissport will use Descartes’ Core Unit Load Device Tracking.

By providing real-time visibility of air shipments, Descartes’ trackers help air carriers automate freight tracking, improve asset management, and increase operating efficiency.

Descartes’ technology can track shipments whether they are in the air or on the ground. It can also monitor temperature, movement, and humidity.

Decartes Systems is currently updating the technology to detect smoke and fire, light sensing, and doorway movement perception.

Scott Sangster, Descartes’ Vice President of Global Linguistics Network stated he’s pleased to be working with Swissport.

“Descartes is dedicated to delivering proven innovations in real-time network technology that help make the movement of air cargo smarter and more efficient,” he said.

Descartes Systems (DSG) is down 0.9 per cent, and is currently trading for C$56.99 at 2:05pm EST.
