E3 Lithium (TSXV:ETL), a mining and development stock, has produced battery-grade lithium carbonate at demonstration scale at its laboratory in Calgary.
The demonstration achieved 99.71 per cent purity, a sufficient threshold to pique the interest of potential partners and offtake inquiries looking to replenish “the predominant chemical for lithium-ion battery production,” according to E3’s overview of lithium’s value proposition on its official website.
Production used lithium chloride concentrate generated from pilot operations in 2023 under the same conditions envisioned for the company’s full-scale lithium brine demonstration facility. The full-scale facility, in turn, follows the outline for a commercial facility in the pre-feasibility study for E3’s after-tax US$3.7 billion net present value (8 per cent) Clearwater project.
E3 will provide more details in the coming weeks on operation parameter testing towards its full-scale demonstration program as it scales into commercial production.
Leadership insights
“Outlining consistent success through each of the development steps is significant as we prepare for the demonstration,” Chris Doornbos, president and chief executive officer of E3 Lithium, said in a statement. “Developing battery quality lithium carbonate at this scale brings us closer to proving Alberta’s potential as a reliable source of lithium production, ready to meet market demand.”
