E3 Lithium (TSXV:TL) has revealed that the Government of Alberta will invest C$5 million through the Emissions Reduction Alberta Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction fund.

In a news release, the company stated the funding will support the company’s integrated lithium brine demonstration facility in Alberta.

Additionally, E3 Lithium is constructing a demo project that will help it achieve its goal of producing battery-grade lithium carbonate from locally sourced brines in Alberta.

“E3 is on the path to building a new industry in the province. As we prove the technology at an increasing scale, we increase the certainty that Alberta can be a major lithium-producing jurisdiction,” Chris Doornbos, CEO of E3 Lithium, said in a statement.

Minister of Enviromnent and Protect Areas Rebecca Schulz said assisting E3 Lithium in getting its technology closer to commercialization will set the stage for Alberta in becoming a “global leader in lithium production while stimulating investment and creating jobs here at home.”

The demo project near Olds, Alberta, intends to purify, concentrate and chemically convert brine into battery-grade lithium carbonate. It will also integrate the necessary components into a reduced-scale commercial system.

E3 Lithium is a development company with a total of 16.2 million tons of lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE) measured and indicated as well as 0.9 million tons LCE inferred mineral resources in Alberta and 2.5 million tons LCE inferred mineral resources in Saskatchewan.

Shares of E3 Lithium Ltd. (TSXV:TL) are up 6.80 per cent to C$1.10 as of 12:49 pm ET.
