Empower Clinics (CSE:CBDT) and EuroLife Brands (CSE:EURO) have created an initiative to educate people about the health benefits of mushrooms.

The companies first announced a definitive agreement for the collaboration on May 15, 2020.

The initiative will result in a cloud-based, globally accessible, educational platform for patients, clinics, and academics. Through it, users will be able to participate, interact, learn, and share information about the uses and applications for mushrooms.

The platform will facilitate learning and seek to avoid misinformation and fake news about the health benefits of mushrooms. This will be possible through the platform’s acceptance of clinical trial results, and integration of expert academic circles, including universities.

Mushrooms are currently considered a super food, because they contain protein, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and micronutrients. They are low in carbohydrates, high in fibre, contain iron and selenium, and are a good source of B-vitamins.

A report from Research and Markets estimated that the global market for edible fungi reached over C$52 billion in 2017. The report also predicted that mushroom expenditure would increase at a compound annual growth rate of 7.9 per cent from 2018 to 2026.

The mushroom education portal will use the same platform technology which EuroLife Brands used for its portal on cannabis.

Empower Clinics’s CEO, Steven McAuley, commented on the collaboration.

“Our global mushroom education initiative will provide significantly more information pertaining to the treatment of a number of ailments using these alternative plant-based treatment options.

“We are proud to bring premium health and wellness products to our patients online and in our clinics. Mushrooms are already a part of our expanding product line in this category. We look forward to working with the team at EuroLife to launch this initiative in the very near future,” he said.

EuroLife Brands (EURO) is down 16.67 per cent and trading at 2.5 cents per share at 10:38am EDT.

Empower Clinics (CBDT) is down 7.14 per cent, and trading at 6.5 cents per share at 11:10am EDT.
