Technology company EnWave (ENW) has signed a commercial royalty-bearing license with US drying solutions company GentleDry Technologies.

Based in Oregon, GentleDry primarily focuses on servicing legalised cannabis cultivators across the United States’ Pacific Northwest region. The business intends to use EnWave’s Radiant Energy Vacuum (REV) dehydration technology to dry cannabis and hemp biomass.

In conjunction with the license signing, GentleDry has also purchased one of EnWave’s 10 kilowatt REV machines from AvoLov. AvoLov is a licensed partner of EnWave, which has been using REV manufacturing capacity to produce its shelf-stable avocado-based snacks and ingredients.

GentleDry and AvoLov also happen to be affiliated through common ownership, making GentleDry’s purchase of the REV machine a simple transaction.

While EnWave’s dehydration technology has primarily been used by food producers, the company has occasionally applied it in the cannabis and hemp industry. The REV technology is well-suited to the sector, as it can provide a faster post-harvest drying method, increased precision, and lower costs.

Cannabis and hemp producers who have adopted EnWave’s REV technology have come from all over the globe, including Canada, the US, Switzerland, Australia, and New Zealand. The opportunities for such applications in the cannabis and hemp market may be about to increase significantly, after recent political changes in the United States.

During the recent US Federal election, the states of Arizona, Montana, New Jersey, and South Dakota approved recreational cannabis use. Mississippi and South Dakota also recently voted to adopt medical cannabis.

This brings the total number of US states that have now legalised medicinal or recreational cannabis to 34.

EnWave is up 1.96 per cent and is trading for C$1.04 per share, as of 9:43am EST.
