HPQ Silicon Inc. (HPQ) has captured the first image of its GEN3 PUREVAP Quartz Reduction Reactor (QRR) pilot plant plasma arc working.
The image was provided by HPQ’s technology provider, PyroGenesis Canada Inc. (PYR). HPQ stated this announcement underlined the significance of the milestone reached with the pilot plant being powered up.
The company stated its pilot plant is a prototype that operates at extremely high temperatures obtaining images of the plasma arc working is a technical challenge. This is a screenshot from a video feed operator for the PUREVAP QRR used to follow the process inside the reactor.
Bernard Tourillon, President and CEO of HPQ Silicon, stated,
“This image is a simple but powerful demonstration that after many years of efforts and support from our shareholders, we are about to start disrupting, on many levels, silicon manufacturing; an industry that still relies on a conventional process developed back in the 1890s.”
HPQ Silicon boasts of being the only company bringing a new process for manufacturing silicon that is advancing alongside modern market needs.
“The reality of chronic underinvestment in new technologies combined with the offshoring of silicon production capacity is creating massive opportunities for HPQ and its PUREVAP QRR patented process,” Tourillon said.
