IAMGOLD (TSX:IMG) has released the initial results from its maiden drill program at the Nelligan joint venture project in Quebec.

The company has repoted the initial six diamond drill holes of the program, which totalled 3,717 metres.

The initial thee hole were sunk at the site’s Renard Zone, with the other three sunk into the Renard West Zone.

At the Renard Zone the company intersected 25 metres at 1.87 grams per tonne gold, which included 2.6 metres grading at 4.72 grams per tonne gold. Another drill hit 1.5 metres grading at 33.8 grams per tonne gold, which included 4.5 metres at 5.75 grams per tonne gold.

The final Renard result hit 27 at 2.86 grams per tonne including three metres at 13.3 grams per tonne.

At the Renard Zone West, the company intersected 10.5 metres at 10.5 grams per tonne gold, which included 1.5 metres at 69.1 grams per tonne gold.

The Nelligan Gold project is a joint venture between IAMGOLD and Vanstar Mining, in which the companies own 75 per cent and 25 per cent, respectively. 

Senior Vice President exploration for IAMGOLD, Craig MacDougall said he was pleased with the initial drilling results.

“The drilling program continued to intersect the expected alteration and associated mineralization within the resource area, and importantly has demonstrated that the alteration system remains open along strike to the west outside of the current modelled resource for potentially another 500 metres,” he said. 

IAMGOLD (IMG) is down 0.6 per cent and is trading at C$4.49 per share at 10:40 pm EDT.
