KWG Resources (KWG) has filed two Natural Resources Canada chromite research reports.

The reports, issued by NRC’s CanmetMINING division, comment favorably on research into KWG’s patented direct reduction method to beneficiate chromite.

The results suggest the method may achieve 30-per-cent lower cost compared to other current methods, plus a reduced carbon footprint of 55 per cent or more, as well as a secondary byproduct production stream of refractory material with significant market value.

The method has potential to meaningfully enhance the economics of KWG’s interests in the Ring of Fire.

As part of Canada’s Critical Minerals Strategy, CanmetMINING has committed to funding a two-year research program to aid in scaling up the direct reduction method in advance of commercialization.

“This is a most tremendously encouraging development for Canada’s crucial role in contributing to North American supply chain and strategic security in its capacity to make stainless steels,” said Megan McElwain, KWG’s President.

KWG Resources is primarily focused on developing chromite deposits in Ontario.

KWG Resources (KWG) is up by 36.36 per cent trading at $0.075 per share as of 1:03 pm EST.
