Security tech stock Liberty Defense (TSXV:SCAN) announced on Wednesday that its flagship Hexwave systems will be installed at aviation worker screening checkpoints in The New Terminal One at John F. Kennedy International Airport. The all-international terminal is scheduled to open in phases beginning in 2026.

The contract was awarded in collaboration with K2 Security Screening Group, a national leader in aviation security, which is building a large, state-of-the-art screening checkpoint at the new terminal. Under the agreement, Hexwave units will be deployed at aviation worker checkpoints, with K2 handling installation, operator training, and ongoing support.

This initiative follows the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) National Amendment on Aviation Worker Screening, which mandates the use of advanced on-person screening technologies capable of detecting a broad range of threats and explosives.

Hexwave technology: Fast, contactless, and comprehensive

HEXWAVE leverages millimetre wave technology, advanced 3D imaging, and artificial intelligence to detect both metallic and non-metallic threats—including liquid, plastic, and powder explosives, 3D-printed weapons, and other prohibited items. The walkthrough system delivers automated, real-time detection with high throughput and exceptional accuracy, enabling a streamlined, contactless screening experience.

Designed for scalability across airports, public venues, government facilities, and commercial environments, HEXWAVE represents a transformative advancement in security screening. By combining speed, precision, and ease of use, the system is poised to set a new industry benchmark for next-generation safety technology.

Part of JFK’s US$19 billion transformation

The New Terminal One is a cornerstone of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s US$19 billion redevelopment plan to transform JFK into a world-class gateway. The project includes two new terminals, modernization and expansion of existing terminals, a new ground transportation center, and an entirely redesigned roadway network.

“Partnering with Liberty Defense and K2 Security Screening Group allows us to implement cutting-edge technology that sets a new benchmark for aviation security in the United States,” Marisa Von Wieding, vice president of operations, New Terminal One, said in a news release.

Liberty Defense had already announced the sale back on October 28, but can now disclose the location.
