NEO Battery Materials (NBM) has received a core patent from the Korean Intellectual Property Office.

The Vancouver company received the Notice of Allowance regarding a core patent for its silicon anode material technology.

The silicon anode materials company first made the application in November 2020.

The Korean Intellectual Property Office has decided the core patent should be registered and will issue it shortly after necessary documentation is received.

In the first licensing agreement with the Yonsei University-Industry Foundation, NEO was granted the worldwide exclusive license for three patents regarding its proprietary silicon nanocoating process to manufacture lithium-ion battery negative electrode active materials.

One of the three patents related to the silicon-polymer composite was approved by the KIPO as a registered patent, bringing the company’s patents to a total of three with two more pending.

“We are pleased to have one of our core Si anode patents to be approved by the KIPO. The Notice of Allowance provides further confirmation of the unique attributes of NEO’s Si nanocoating technology, and we will move forward to bolster the IP portfolio with new patents and as mentioned, to the USPTO and WIPO for international designation,” said President and CEO Spencer Huh.

NEO Battery materials is down 2 per cent, trading at $0.50 at 12:55 pm EST.
