BC Transit orders 29 zero-emission buses from NFI subsidiary

NFI Group Inc. (TSX:NFI, OTC:NFYEF, TSX:NFI.DB) subsidiary Alexander Dennis Ltd. received a firm order for 29 zero-emission Enviro500EV buses from BC Transit.

The new Enviro500 will be constructed through a collaboration between Alexander Dennis and Big Rig Manufacturing. Operational support will be provided by Alexander Dennis’ personnel along with the broader NFI Parts network.

“This new order of 29 Alexander Dennis Enviro500 buses will help ensure we are able to keep our essential transit services running efficiently for our valued customers,” BC Transit President and CEO Erinn Pinkerton said in a news release Friday. “Transit ridership continues to grow in British Columbia, and we look forward to these buses going into service next year.”

Alexander Dennis has now confirmed orders from transit agencies in Canada and the United States for more than 110 Enviro500 and Enviro500EV double deck buses, Including BC Transit.

BC Transit, a provincial government corporation, offers planning, marketing, fleet and funding support for all transit services throughout British Columbia, excluding the Metro Vancouver area. It collaborates with 59 local governments and manages 57 transit systems.

NFI Group shares opened trading at C$14.99. Though trading 65.27 per cent higher than a year ago, NFI stock has fallen 53.59 per cent over the past five years.
