EV Nickel (TSXV:EVNI) published results for the first six drillholes from the phase-1 program testing the Gemini North zone on its Shaw Dome project in Ontario, featuring the property’s best drillhole to date.

The Shaw Dome project houses a resource estimated at over 40 million pounds of nickel, 900,000 pounds of copper, 200,000 pounds of cobalt, 9,000 ounces of platinum and 21,000 ounces of palladium.

All six drillholes under the 12-hole program intersected similar mineralization to EV24-CAR08, which yielded 234 metres grading 0.28 per cent nickel.

The highlight near-surface intercept of 186.5 metres grading 0.36 per cent nickel in EV25-GN06 is the longest to date over 0.34 per cent nickel on the property.

Other notable intercepts suggestive of high-grade potential include 3.85 per cent nickel over 0.20 metres in EV25-GN05 and 1.07 per cent nickel over 0.30 metres in EV25-GN06.

According to Wednesday’s news release, “sulphur contents are significantly enriched when compared to other large-scale nickel projects around the Timmins area and contain higher proportions of copper, platinum and palladium than observed at the CarLang A deposit.”

SGS Canada will conduct metallurgical testing at Gemini North over the coming weeks to determine the optimal flow sheet to recover critical minerals from the zone.

Mineralization remains open in multiple directions, with assays set to orient phase-2 drilling slated for summer 2025.

Leadership insights

“The Gemini North zone is developing into a potentially significant zone of nickel sulphide mineralization within our overall CarLang trend,” Paul Davis, EV Nickel’s vice president of exploration, said in a statement. “All 6 of the first 12 drillholes of the Gemini North drill program intersected similar style disseminated and blebby sulphides as first observed in CAR08, with broader zones of even better nickel mineralization than seen in 2024’s single drillhole. We are further encouraged by the continuity highlighted by 186.5 metres grading 0.36 per cent nickel, with meaningfully higher interval grades and elevated byproducts. If the zone continues to expand and grow in size, this could represent a near-surface area with a style of mineralization that would react well to conventional milling processes and has similarities to a “Mt. Keith” style of nickel sulphide mineralization (BHP’s world-class open-pit nickel complex in Western Australia).”
