POET (PTK) will use high-speed DMLs from Lumentum for its 400G, 800G, and 1.6T data centre solutions.

The 400G FR4 optical engines will be the industry’s first implementation of DMLs with flip-chip integration on an optical interposer at these data rates.

Customers will have the flexibility to design 400G, 800G, and 1.6T pluggable transceivers using the same 400G FR4 chiplets, given the small size and elegant design of POET’s optical engines.

The DMLs will enable cost-efficient and highly scalable 800G and 1.6T pluggable transceivers for hyper-scale data centres.

DML technology has a proven track record of enabling high-volume transceiver deployments at every generation of speeds in hyperscale data centres.

POET’s Chairman & CEO, Dr. Suresh Venkatesan, said the majority of the 400G transceivers in the market today use either externally modulated lasers or silicon photonics combined with external lasers. These solutions require multiple components and involve several cumbersome and costly active alignments.

“POET has a significant opportunity to disrupt the market with a highly integrated solution with all passive alignments and monolithically integrated waveguides and multiplexers, which translates to lower cost, power, and size benefits to our customers.”

The company is looking to start sampling 400G FR4 optical engines in the first half of 2023 with production by the second half of 2023.

POET Technologies Inc. is a design and development company offering integrated solutions based on the POET Optical Interposer.

Lumentum Holdings Inc. designs and manufactures innovative optical and photonic products enabling optical networking and laser applications.

POET Technologies (PTK) is up 0.28 per cent trading at $3.55 per share at 09:45 am ET.
