PyroGenesis Canada (TSX:PYR) announced a second commercial order for titanium metal powder from a U.S.-based original equipment manufacturer serving the additive manufacturing industry.
This marks another step forward in the plasma technology company’s efforts to expand its presence in the growing metal 3D printing market.
The latest contract, valued at US$73,700 (approximately C$102,132), comes less than a week after PyroGenesis announced its first order from the same customer. The company said the powder associated with the new order has already been produced and is expected to ship within the coming days.
The identity of the customer and the volume of material ordered remain confidential for competitive reasons.

Growing relationship with additive manufacturing client
The order represents the second commercial purchase from the U.S.-based technology provider, underscoring what PyroGenesis views as growing validation of its titanium powder production capabilities.
Similar to the initial order announced on Aug. 24, the new contract is for Ti64 coarse-cut titanium powder with a particle size range of 45 to 150 microns. The material will be used in directed energy deposition (DED) applications, a metal additive manufacturing technology commonly employed in aerospace and defence industries.
DED systems use focused laser energy to deposit and fuse metal powder, making them particularly well suited for manufacturing large structural components and repairing high-value parts. According to PyroGenesis, laser-based DED systems are capable of producing metal components measuring up to five metres in length, among the largest parts currently manufacturable using metal 3D-printing technologies.
Built on NexGen plasma atomization technology
The titanium powder supplied under the contract is produced using PyroGenesis’ NexGen plasma atomization process, an updated version of the company’s proprietary technology.
PyroGenesis is recognized as the inventor of the plasma atomization process and originally coined the term in its foundational patent. The technology has long been regarded as one of the premier methods for producing high-quality spherical metal powders used in additive manufacturing.
Following years of research and development, the company redesigned its plasma atomization platform and launched NexGen with the goal of improving powder quality and production yields while reducing operating costs.
Rather than pursuing rapid scale-up, the company adopted a gradual commercialization strategy. That approach has seen PyroGenesis progress from supplying gram-scale customer samples to fulfilling 100-kilogram orders and eventually securing its first tonne-scale shipment in May 2023.
Multiple titanium powder product categories
PyroGenesis manufactures titanium powder across several particle-size distributions designed to meet the needs of various additive manufacturing processes.
Its Fine Cut powders, ranging from 15 to 63 microns, are intended for laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) applications. Coarse Cut powders, including the 45-to-150-micron range ordered by the current customer, are geared toward electron beam melting (EBM) and directed energy deposition (DED) technologies.
The company also produces Off-Cut powders, consisting of particle sizes not commonly utilized by current commercial 3D printers. These powders can serve as premium feedstock material for advanced alloy production and other specialized industrial applications.
Positioned for expanding titanium additive manufacturing market
PyroGenesis’ latest order arrives as demand for titanium powders continues to grow alongside broader adoption of additive manufacturing technologies.
Industry forecasts cited by the company project the global titanium powder market for 3D printing applications to expand from approximately US$214 million in 2023 to US$1.4 billion by 2032.
Titanium’s appeal stems largely from its combination of strength, light weight and corrosion resistance, making it a preferred material across a range of sectors including aerospace, defence, space exploration, medical devices, consumer electronics, hydrogen technologies and electric vehicles.
The metal is also classified as a critical mineral by both Canada and the United States, reflecting its strategic importance to industrial and national security supply chains.
With a second order secured from the same customer within days, PyroGenesis appears to be building momentum in its additive manufacturing business as it seeks to capitalize on rising demand for advanced titanium powders and next-generation metal 3D-printing solutions.

Combined with last week’s announcement of a second titanium powder order with a major DOD and NASA-supported U.S. applied research facility client, today’s announcement of a separate such order from a serious client moves us closer to reaching the critical mass required to execute on our strategic goal.
