Search suspended for SSR miners missing after Türkiye mine collapse

SSR Mining (TSX:SSRM) provided an update on the tragedy that struck its Çöpler gold operation in eastern Türkiye.

landslide at the mine last week left at least nine miners missing. The company stated this was because of a large slip on the heap leach pad. 

On Monday, the company stated that Turkish government authorities have chosen to temporarily suspend search and rescue activities to focus on stabilization of the heap leach area. SSR Mining stated it is supporting all government efforts on site.

Over the weekend, the company issued another update acknowledging that several of its team members are facing charges in relation to the incident.

Law firms such as Bronstein, Gewirtz & Grossman and Pomerantz LLP are investigating any claims against the company over this incident in a potential class-action suit and encourage any investors aware of any facts relating to this investigation or purchased securities in SSR to contact them.

Because of this incident, SSR Mining has pushed the release of its Q4 and full-year 2023 financial results to after market close on Feb 27, 2024. In addition, a conference call and webcast will be held at 5 pm ET.

SSR Mining Inc. is a gold company with four producing operations in the United States, Türkiye, Canada and Argentina, combined with a global pipeline of development and exploration assets. Over the past three years, the four operating assets combined have produced on average more than 700,000 gold-equivalent ounces annually.

SSR Mining stock lost 32.44 per cent over the past week and opened trading at C$5.93 per share.
