BYD Leaves Its Western Rivals in the Dust

BYD’s fundamental performance in recent years has been phenomenal. What this Chinese conglomerate is currently achieving on the international stage is simply overwhelming. In the second quarter of 2026, net profit climbed by 30% to 8.2 billion yuan. Although total turnover fell slightly by 3.2% to 194.6 billion yuan during this period, this is precisely where the “management’s shrewdness” comes to the fore, as the Chinese domestic market is characterized by a brutal price war. BYD is using its almost unbelievable export strength as a clever workaround, thereby skilfully evading some of the local price pressure – which, in part, it has actually helped to fuel. In the first half of 2026, 53% of the massive total turnover of 344.8 billion yuan already came from abroad. Over 790,000 vehicles were successfully exported. That is a massive leap of almost 68% compared with the previous year! With a new, state-of-the-art plant taking shape in Hungary, BYD is expanding its global footprint step by step. The company is literally taking the global market by storm. This could allow BYD to escape a highly competitive domestic market and put its profits and turnover on a broader footing. From a technical analysis perspective, however, this has not yet been reflected in the share price. The share is still struggling for stability after a recent slide to EUR 8.03, which took a heavy toll. It currently stands at around EUR 9.40, but remains below the psychologically important EUR 10 mark. Only once it rises above EUR 10.80 will the technical outlook for BYD look significantly better again.

Record-Breaking Turnover at Adidas

Adidas has really set the world alight in the past quarter. The figures from the rather tranquil town of Herzogenaurach prove just what the company is truly capable of. Global turnover climbed by 13% in the second quarter to an impressive EUR 6.74 billion. According to management, this was the highest quarterly turnover in the company’s long history. A major driver was undoubtedly the enormous global demand surrounding the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Jerseys, new high-performance boots, and trendy lifestyle products struck a chord with the jubilant fans. To underpin this newly gained market power, Adidas also splashed out. USD 1.05 billion was aggressively invested in targeted marketing, representing a significant 30% increase. The strategy is paying off. Operating profit for the full year is estimated at around EUR 2.3 billion. Adidas appears to have rediscovered its sporting rhythm. However, the current share price, at just under EUR 150, is still well below the level seen a few weeks ago, at just under EUR 190. The current share price could represent an attractive entry point for a staggered accumulation across several positions.

Almonty Industries: Sitting on the Ultimate Strategic Raw Material

From sports and automotive companies, we now turn our attention to the commodities sector. We look deep into the earth at a raw material that, amongst other things, underpins our technology-driven world. Without the extremely resilient metal tungsten, the global defence industry might soon grind to a complete halt. This is precisely where Almonty Industries comes into the picture. The company occupies a key, highly critical position. The financial results for the second quarter of 2026, presented on August 11, demonstrate quite impressively how Almonty is growing. Revenue soared by 498% year-on-year to CAD 43.0 million. Adjusted EBITDA also improved significantly, coming in at CAD 17.6 million. A net profit of CAD 181.8 million resulted primarily from non-cash valuation gains, though this should not detract from the result. Far more crucial, however, is the rock-solid financial foundation. Through the oversubscribed placement of convertible senior notes, the company raised over USD 800 million. As a result, cash holdings rose to over CAD 1.2 billion by the end of June. This fresh capital provides the flexibility to drive the desired growth. The first phase of the major Sangdong mine in South Korea is successfully entering commissioning. It is expected to reach a capacity of 640,000 tonnes per annum very soon. Phase II is already firmly planned and is set to almost double processing capacity to up to 1.2 million tonnes.

US Boycott Set for 2027: Almonty Sends a USD 300 Million Signal

The recently published CEO newsletters from Lewis Black offer an interesting analysis of the current market situation. Black emphasizes that Western governments must establish supply chains independent of China. Market participants are increasingly recognizing the enormous strategic value of a secure, Western tungsten supply. However, according to management, this fundamental shift is not yet reflected in the current share price.

Consequently, on August 17, Almonty announced a massive share buyback program. A maximum of 14.4 million shares are to be repurchased over the next 36 months for up to USD 300 million.

Tungsten is indispensable for defence equipment and technologies such as artificial intelligence. Starting in 2027, the US Department of Defense will officially ban the purchase of Chinese tungsten. As China currently controls around 80% of the global market, this will inevitably create a supply gap. Almonty is positioning itself precisely here as the saviour Western supplier.

Technical Analysis

Almonty Industries’ share price is currently undergoing a minor consolidation phase, following a recent rise that took it from just under USD 10 to approximately USD 18. Strong horizontal support lies around the USD 16 mark and just below it. The share price currently stands at approximately USD 17.70. If it finds its way back into the upward trend channel, it could move towards USD 20 quite quickly. This could then be followed by a further upward move which, based on the chart pattern, has the potential to reach as high as USD 24.

When will the upward move toward USD 24 begin?

BYD dominates the global auto market with its successful export strategy. Adidas has made a spectacular turnaround and is shining with fantastic record sales in the sports sector, but the World Cup hype is now over for the time being. Almonty Industries operates behind the scenes and forms a strategically important pillar for the West in terms of tungsten supply. Operational progress in South Korea and the share buyback underpin this development.
