Design firm Stantec (STN) has been chosen to provide planning, design and conformance services for the new South Niagara Hospital.

Located on a 49.8-acre greenfield site in Niagara Falls, Ontario, the hospital will span 1.3 million square feet once completed. The full acute care hospital will have 470 beds, a 24/7 emergency department, and services for critical care, surgical, mental health, addiction, kidney dialysis, and testing and research.

In addition, the hospital will also have centres of excellence specialising in strokes, complex care, geriatrics and psychogeriatrics, and wellness in aging. When it opens, the hospital will be one of Canada’s first healthcare facilities to achieve WELL certification.

Stantec is well suited to provide its services for this project, having previously completed the campus plan for Niagara Health.

Throughout the project, Stantec’s healthcare team will provide illustrative schematic designs and detailed output specifications. The company will also evaluate compliance with design and construction requirements for the new hospital.

The senior principal for Stantec’s Health sector, John Steven, said that the company will deploy the latest best practices in healthcare design at South Niagara Hospital.

“The current pandemic has underlined the need to expand capacity and access to critical healthcare services within our existing health systems,” he said.

“We’re excited to continue our work with Niagara Health to support the health and wellbeing of the community,” he added.

The South Niagara Hospital is scheduled to be completed and operational sometime in 2027.

Stantec is down 0.26 per cent and is trading for C$39.05 per share, as of 2:31pm EST.
