POET Technologies (TSXV:PTK), a provider of differentiated data transmission technology, has partnered with South Korea’s Lessengers, an optical solutions provider, to develop and bring to market a next-gen 800G DR8 transceiver.
Transceivers, quoting POET’s official website, “convert digital electrical signals generated by conventional electronic devices into light waves that can be transmitted over optical fibers with higher data density, lower loss and lower cost than copper wire.”
The companies’ new transceiver offering will combine POET’s optical engines and Lessenger’s Direct Optical Wiring technology, granting cost and efficiency advantages to both AI developers and hyperscale data centers.
POET will supply its POET Infinity optical engines configured in an 800G DR8 architecture, with Lessengers expected to have transceiver samples ready for customer evaluation in the second half of 2025.
Investors current and prospective can meet the companies, sitting side-by-side, at the Optical Fiber Communications Conference in San Francisco, which ends on April 3.
The news follows POET’s sample deliveries to three global technology customers in March, all unrelated to Wednesday’s news release, with eyes on commercial production in 2025.
Leadership insights
“Like POET, Lessengers is bringing cutting-edge innovation to the market. It is a perfect partnership of companies that are finding new solutions by unlocking the vast abilities of optical technology. We’re thrilled to continue our growth in the industry through a co-development arrangement with a likeminded and truly inventive company,” Raju Kankipati, POET’s chief revenue officer, said in a statement.
“POET’s production-ready optical engines provide Lessengers with a high-quality component that allows us to bring more value to our transceiver customers. POET offers a complementary technology to Lessengers’ direct optical coupling that saves on costs and improves efficiency,” added Taeyong Kim, Lessengers’ chief marketing officer.
