On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Canada’s benchmark stock index dropped while traders took stock of softer-than-expected US inflation data.

US markets were split on this, the final day of September, after the latest economic data showed inflation slowed last month, sending Treasury yields lower.

The Canadian dollar traded for 70.26 cents US compared to 70.51 cents US on Tuesday.

US crude futures traded US$1.26 higher at US$90.64 a barrel, and the Brent contract rose US$2.06 to US$98.22 a barrel.

The price of gold was up US$5.08 to US$4,153.65.

In world markets, the Nikkei was up 1,272.45 points to ¥66,753.72, the Hang Seng was up 89.70 points to HK$24,613.27, the FTSE was down 30.71 points to ₤10,606.00, and the DAX was down 200.02 points to €25,199.19.
