US stocks registered more substantial gains, with all major indices adding about 1% on Friday, counteracting four straight sessions in the red, despite inflation data for August exceeding consensus expectations, improving the chances of an interest rate hike when the US Federal Reserve meets next week. The CME FedWatch tool pegs this probability at 86.5%.

The Canadian dollar traded for US$0.7208, down from US$0.7228 on Thursday.
US crude futures traded US$2.21 lower to US$100.27 per barrel, while the Brent contract traded US$0.15 higher to US$104.76 per barrel.
The price of gold was down by US$17.10 to US$4,390.20 per ounce.
In world markets, the Nikkei fell by 1,259.61 points to 64,011.34, the Hang Seng fell by 148.84 points to 24,805.63, the FTSE added 41.52 points to 10,650.44, while the Dax added 207.41 points to 25,568.56.
