Canada’s main stock index closed higher Thursday as positive earnings from energy and mining companies improved investor sentiment, while persistent Middle East uncertainty provided support for gold prices.

Meanwhile, US equities rebounded after the previous session’s selloff, which followed the Federal Reserve’s decision to keep rates on hold. Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) stock rose 15.52 per cent and chipmakers were also among the biggest contributors to the rally.
