Canada’s main stock index ended higher in Monday trading thanks to gains in the technology sector. However, the mining and industrial sectors finished lower.

The Canadian dollar traded for 74.54 cents US, compared to 74.68 cents US on Friday.

US crude futures traded $1.01 lower at $78.85 a barrel, while the Brent contract lost $1.11 to $84.17 a barrel.

The price of gold was down US$1.61 to US$1,915.63.

In world markets, the Nikkei was down 297.20 points to 25,822.32, the Hang Seng was up 8.06 points to 21,746.72, the FTSE was up 16.00 points to 7,860.07, and the DAX was up 47.52 points to 15,134.04.
