Canadian equities moved higher on Wednesday, lifted by a one-month high in gold prices and rising crude oil prices as investors digested a series of earnings releases. Thomson Reuters (TSX:TRI) closed lower after reporting stronger-than-expected second-quarter revenue and profit, while raising its outlook for annual revenue growth. Suncor Energy (TSX:SU) also fell after posting adjusted earnings above expectations, while iA Financial Corp. Inc. (TSX: IAG) actually rose on news it had outperformed quarterly core earnings per share forecasts. The TSX clocked a fresh intraday all-time high of 36,443.29.
South of the border, US stocks sought to continue the momentum from the previous day’s powerful rally. Market participants closely examined new earnings reports from companies including SpaceX (NASDAQ:SPCX) and Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:AMD).

The Canadian dollar traded for 71.36 cents US compared to 71.08 cents US on Tuesday.
US crude futures traded $0.54 lower at US$76.23 a barrel, but the Brent contract rose $0.14 to US$79.50 a barrel.
The price of gold was up US$152.71 to US$4,247.74.
In world markets, the Nikkei was up 2,342.91 points to ¥66,300.44, the Hang Seng was up 62.90 points to HK$25,915.82, the FTSE was up 8.92 points to ₤10,888.30, and the DAX was down 76.05 points to €26,126.30.
