Lahontan Gold: CEO Sets Sights on Start of Production
While the gold price continues to take a breather at high levels, Lahontan Gold is in the home stretch of the race to begin gold production as planned next year. The company is driven by the enthusiasm of its founder and CEO, Kimberly Ann. Anyone who has seen Ann at an investor conference can sense her passion for turning Lahontan into more than just another exploration story. She wants to create real value for shareholders. After all, Ann herself is a shareholder in the company.
In a recent interview with Lyndsay Malchuk of the IIF, Kimberly Ann provided an exciting update on the Santa Fe project in Nevada. The resource estimate was most recently increased by 22%. It now comprises approximately 1.2 million ounces of gold in the “indicated” category, as well as an additional 1.2 million ounces in the “inferred” category. At the same time, the CEO notes that results for about 125 drill holes are still pending. Meanwhile, the company is working on a new PEA, which will incorporate, among other things, updated metallurgical data and recovery rates. Of particular interest are the historic heap-leach pads and tailings piles. There, the company completed 110 short sonic drill holes. Ann estimates the resource at around 200,000 ounces. The material, which has already been crushed, could be flexibly integrated into the mining plan.
The focus is increasingly shifting from exploration to the implementation of mining operations. The revised PEA is intended to form a key component of the mining permit application and specify in detail where the processing plant, heap-leach pads, and other infrastructure are to be located. Lahontan is currently aiming to obtain a mining permit around the second quarter of 2027 and then move into the construction phase. The company benefits from the fact that, among other things, wells, water rights, a substation, and road infrastructure already exist on site.
Lahontan is also preparing organizationally and financially for the transition to becoming a producer. The team has been expanded to include, among others, a mining engineer as well as additional expertise in corporate development and exploration. Ann estimates that the construction of Santa Fe will require approximately USD 150 million in financing. The company plans to cover this primarily through debt financing. Good news for shareholders: Given the high gold price, Ann expects a short payback period. To achieve this, the company plans to prioritize higher-grade material initially. Another factor driving Lahontan’s share price could be the company’s planned presence on the US capital market. The planned listing on the New York Stock Exchange is scheduled for next year.

D-Wave: Leading the Way in the New Race
A new race is currently taking shape in quantum computing. For a long time, the competition among providers focused primarily on the number of qubits. Now, however, error correction, scalability, and practical utility are taking centre stage. After all, a high number of physical qubits alone is not enough if they are too prone to errors. What matters far more is how efficiently these can be transformed into stable logical qubits and how these can be applied to real-world applications. At the same time, the combination of quantum computers, classical high-performance computers, and AI is gaining importance. The industry race is therefore likely to increasingly revolve around who can make powerful and highly fault-tolerant systems economically viable.
This is precisely where D-Wave Quantum comes in with an announcement from October 1, 2026. The company has launched a beta program for its new gate-model quantum simulator. Selected companies and research institutions can use it to develop and test applications for D-Wave’s planned gate-model systems. Participants include BBVA, the Jülich Supercomputing Centre, and Florida Atlantic University, among others. A key focus is on so-called “error-aware” applications and quantum error correction. The underlying dual-rail technology is designed to detect errors at the hardware level, thereby reducing the additional resources required for error correction.
D-Wave has so far been known primarily for quantum annealing and its commercial applications. Meanwhile, D-Wave is expanding its gate-model technology, addressing a much broader segment of the quantum computing market. The beta program is intended to gather early user feedback and accelerate the development of practical applications for the planned gate-model systems.
2G Energy Benefits from the AI Race
2G Energy is increasingly benefiting from the AI race, as energy plays a crucial role in this field. Last week, the specialist in decentralized energy supply reported on its order intake for the third quarter of 2026, which totaled more than EUR 400 million. A key driver is a new major order from the data centre industry for containerized power plants with a capacity of 275 MW. This exceeds 2G’s total production for fiscal year 2025. The customer has already made a down payment in the mid-double-digit millions. In addition, a major order from the mining sector was secured in July. The traditional business is performing well but plays almost no role anymore amid the AI boom. For heat pumps, 2G expects order intake of up to EUR 30 million in 2026.
Due to high demand, 2G is raising its medium-term growth targets. For 2027, the Executive Board now expects revenue of between EUR 600 and 650 million, up from the previous range of EUR 570 to 620 million. Compared to the EUR 490 million targeted for 2026, this represents growth of approximately 23 to 33%. At the same time, the EBIT margin is expected to rise to more than 11% starting in 2027. For 2028, the company is providing a revenue forecast for the first time, projecting revenue of EUR 750 to 850 million. Additional production capacity is to be created, among other things, by a new assembly hall at the company’s headquarters in Heek. It is scheduled to go into operation at the end of 2027. Hopefully, the AI hype will not have died down by then.
The interview with the Lahontan CEO is exciting. A growing resource, mining operations, and plans for a US stock market listing are driving the share price. It is not just gold enthusiasts who should take a closer look at this stock. D-Wave Quantum remains one of investors’ favorites. However, the broader industry is not currently in the spotlight on the stock market. 2G Energy’s order books are full to the brim. The fact that the stock did not react more strongly last week is likely due to investors’ doubts about the sustainability of the AI boom surrounding semiconductors and energy.
