B2Gold Corp. (TSX:BTO) reported that three of its employees were killed off-site in an attack on an employee transport convoy in Mali.

Vancouver-based B2Gold said in a news statement that a bus carrying workers from the Fekola Mine to Bamako was attacked approximately 75 kilometres west of Bamako.

According to early reports, several other employees travelling on the bus were wounded, all were taken to a local hospital.

The attack happened more than 300 kilometres northeast of the Fekola mine site, along a transport route that the company said has been the focus of an increased security presence by the Malian armed forces.

Mining and processing activities at the Fekola mine have not been impacted by the incident, with B2Gold adding that it is working with the Malian government to understand further details.

B2Gold is a Canadian gold producer that has operating gold mines in Mali, Namibia and the Philippines and numerous exploration and development projects in countries including Mali, Colombia, Finland and Uzbekistan.

B2Gold Corp. last traded C$3.42 at per share.
