Uber Technologies (NYSE:UBER) announced a series of new partnerships with regional grocery retailers across the United States, expanding the selection of local grocery stores available through the Uber Eats marketplace. The move brings several well-known community-based grocers, including Busch’s Fresh Food Market, Hays, Lowe’s Market, and Piggly Wiggly, to the company’s grocery delivery platform.

The expansion is aimed at giving consumers additional ways to shop from familiar neighbourhood stores while increasing Uber Eats’ grocery footprint nationwide. Customers will be able to order groceries and household essentials through the Uber Eats, Uber, and Postmates apps, with options for both on-demand and scheduled delivery.

Under the new partnerships, shoppers can access products ranging from weekly grocery supplies to last-minute items and have them delivered directly to their homes. Uber said customers will also benefit from real-time order tracking throughout the delivery process.

Among the newly added retailers is Busch’s Fresh Food Market, a family-owned grocery chain that has served Michigan communities for more than 50 years. The retailer is recognized for its fresh produce, premium meat and seafood selections, chef-prepared foods, and partnerships with local suppliers.

Also joining the platform is Hays, a family-owned grocery company with more than a century of history serving customers across Arkansas and Missouri through its Hays Supermarkets and Food Smart banners.

Lowe’s Market, part of Pay and Save, Inc., is another addition to the marketplace. The retailer operates primarily in Texas and offers a range of grocery products, including fresh produce, pantry staples, and locally favored items.

Meanwhile, Piggly Wiggly, widely recognized as America’s first true self-service grocery store, will now have participating North Carolina locations available through Uber Eats.

Uber said the addition of regional and independent grocers is designed to broaden product selection for consumers while providing retailers with another channel to reach customers. The company has continued to invest in grocery delivery as part of its broader strategy to diversify beyond restaurant delivery and offer more everyday shopping options through its platform.

“When it comes to grocery shopping, local preference matters,” Hashim Amin, one of Uber’s executives, said in a news release. “Whether it’s a regional chain that has been part of a community for decades or a neighbourhood market customers visit every week, people want familiar grocery options that fit their routines. These new partnerships help us bring more of those local favourites to Uber Eats while creating new opportunities for grocers to grow their business.”

Customers interested in ordering from participating grocery stores can do so by selecting the Grocery section in the Uber Eats app or the Shops section in the Uber app. After choosing a nearby participating store, users can browse available products, add items to their cart, select either immediate or scheduled delivery, and track their order in real time.

The partnerships further strengthen Uber Eats’ position in the growing online grocery market, where demand for convenience, delivery flexibility, and access to local retailers continues to expand.

Uber Technologies stock (NYSE:UBER) opened trading at US$70.60 and has lost 15 per cent since the year began.
