ZEN Graphene Solutions’ (ZEN) graphene-based virucidal ink has once again been endorsed after performing well under additional testing.

Since first being manufactured to combat COVID-19, the company’s proprietary antiviral coating has undergone numerous tests to test its efficacy. This has included its efficacy against the SARS-CoV-2 virus itself, as well as its effect once applied to personal protective equipment (PPE).

A major Canadian certification company conducted testing on air filtration material, comparing material treated with the coating to material that was not. Despite having the graphene-based ink applied to it, the treated filter material has the same minimum efficiency reporting value as the untreated filter.

This confirmed that application of the coating does not impact filter material flow rates or pressure drop.

The BIG-nano Corporation tested ZEN Graphene’s virucidal ink on BIG-nano’s meltblown polypropylene, a material commonly used in protective masks. Under high-resolution scanning electron microscope (SEM), the coating adhered to the material samples well, and achieved a consistent particle dispersion and distribution.

In addition, the ink did not block fibre pores, allowing the material to retain a high level of breathability. BIG-nano’s Dr Abolfazl Mohebbi described the coating as one of the best coatings he had ever seen in his academic experiences.

Both findings from these tests validate that ZEN Graphene’s product does not affect breathability or flow rates in mask and filtration materials. The company’s CEO, Greg Fenton, commented on the latest promising results, and how it will boost the coating’s market potential.

“Demonstrating that the application of our coating on both filtration and mask materials does not negatively affect the air flow or breathability is another meaningful step towards realising the full potential of our novel graphene-based solutions,” he said.

“We believe the personal protective equipment (PPE) and air filtration markets have enormous potential for our company as we develop vital tools in our collective fight against pathogens, like SARS-CoV-2,” he added.

ZEN Graphene Solutions is up 2.6 per cent and trading for $3.55 per share, as of 10:59am EST.
