Mobile game creator ePlay Digital (CSE:EPY) has launched a mobile game series, which allows players to fight COVID-19 whilst self-isolating.

The first title of the game series, Outbreak, will launch today in the Apple App Store and Google Play. Outbreak is a fast-paced, match-3 game in which players match the colours of infectious viral droplets. They can also watch out for special bacteria that may save their lives in the game. The end objective is to destroy the disease before it reaches the body’s inner cavity.

ePlay’s CEO, Trevor Doerksen, explained that Outbreak draws attention to COVID-19, and how we can contribute through self-isolation and social distancing.

“By building quarantine-compatible games, we hope that we can help make families more comfortable and quarantine-compatible too,” he said.

In addition to fighting COVID-19 in-game, players will be able to contribute to the real fight going on outside.

All profits from the games and weekly challenges will go to the Breakout the Masks charity campaign, which launched today. The funds will provide masks, ventilators, gloves, and other protective equipment to people on the COVID-19 front lines.

ePlay launched the game series and charity campaign with its non-profit partner, Direct Relief, and Canadian celebrity Howie Mandel.

Howie, a well-known germaphobe, was a source of inspiration for the games, dubbed “Howie’s Games”. ePlay first began working with him in September to create a series of titles based on his germaphobia.

“I have spent most of my life in fear of a disease outbreak like COVID-19. Let’s work and play together, while in self-isolation and keeping social distance. That way, we can ensure that front line workers are safe, so that they can keep us safe,” he said.

ePlay’s share price is up 66.67 per cent at $0.10 per share at 9:56am EST.
