Agricultural tech company Affinor Growers (AFI) has received a patent for its hydroponic home vertical growing technology.

Vertical farming is a method of growing and harvesting various crops on vertically stacked shelves and towers, as opposed to the traditional horizontal farming layout. The vertical method of farming often incorporates controlled-environment agriculture, and soilless farming techniques like hydroponics, aquaponics, and aeroponics.

In many cases, farmers who implement vertical growing technologies are able to yield substantially more produce on the same amount of land. Affinor developed its hydroponic home vertical growing technology in order to allow customers to sustainably produce fresh fruits in their own homes.

On September 22, 2020, the United States Patent and Trademark Office issued U.S. Patent No US D896,690 S for the company’s new solution design. Affinor Growers’ Chief Executive Officer, Nick Brusatore, commented on the significance of the US Patent for the company’s hydroponic vertical growing design.

“I am excited to see the patents issued to Affinor as we begin to commercialise and realise on the value that vertical farming brings to the world,” he said.

Currently, Affinor’s hydroponic home vertical growing product is not quite ready for distribution or sales. However, the company is continuing to progress towards its eventual commercialisation.

For now, Affinor is content with another welcome addition to its growing portfolio of patents for its vertical growing technology.

The company’s share price has responded well to the news of the product being patented in the United States.

Affinor Growers is up 20 per cent and trading for three cents per share, as of 11:55am EST.
