NFI Group (NFI) has been selected by Austin’s CapMetro to provide up to 171 EVs and 427 EV chargers.

The five-year contract, awarded to NFI subsidiary New Flyer of America, includes:

  • 26 battery-electric Xcelsior CHARGE NG forty-foot transit buses
  • Four battery-electric Xcelsior CHARGE NG sixty-foot transit buses

The contract details options to purchase up to 126 forty-foot and up to 15 sixty-foot battery-electric buses, and up to 427 chargers (197 depot plug-in chargers, 197 depot overhead chargers and 33 on route chargers).

New Flyer’s Xcelsior CHARGE NG buses deliver up to 525 kWh of power and 250 miles of range on a single charge and, over a 12-year lifespan, offer up to C$125,000 in maintenance savings and up to C$400,000 in fuel savings.

CapMetro is Austin, Texas’ public transportation provider, delivering over 20 million annual trips through bus, paratransit and commuter rail services. The award will advance CapMetro’s Project Connect, which aims to address equity, sustainability and innovation by electrifying its more than 400-vehicle fleet.

NFI has delivered 344 buses to CapMetro since 1997.

NFI is focused on the electrification of mass mobility with electric vehicles operating or on order in more than 80 cities in five countries.
