Meridian Mining (MNO) is reporting the latest round of assay results from its Cabaçal gold-copper project in Brazil.

The U.K.-based mineral exploration company returned up to 54.9 metres at 2.1grams per tonne of gold, and 0.1 percent copper and 0.5 grams per tonne of silver from 12.3 metres depth.

Results are within the project’s northwest extension’s high-grade zone.

The company says the result confirms the shallowest horizons of the Cabaçal resource area host strong potential for further gold-copper mineralization and were not adequately assayed or tested via historical drilling.

Final assays confirm a strong new shallow copper-gold corridor for follow-up drilling.

“CD-205 demonstrates a clear example of how shallow high-grade mineralization is better delineated via the ongoing infill program using angled holes, and also just how much of Cabaçal’s shallowest zones remain essentially untested. This represents a significant opportunity for Meridian to expand and upgrade the Cabaçal resource, as well as having over 1,000m of additional higher grade internal and external zones to infill and extend from,” said President and CEO Dr. Adrian McArthur.

Infill drilling continues to focus on extending and infilling the multiple higher-grade zones of the deposit, where the company sees opportunities to repeat these results.

Meridian Mining is up 2.78 percent, trading at $0.37 at 1:31 pm ET.
