Boralex (TSX:BLX) and Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation are celebrating the commercial commissioning of the Hagersville Battery Energy Storage Park, the largest operating battery storage facility in Canada.
The Ontario-based project boasts a capacity of 300 MW/1,200 MWh, enabling up to four hours of full-power delivery to the grid through the deployment of 334 Tesla Megapack 2XL units, marking a concerted step forward in Canada’s energy transition and shining a spotlight on its co-development partners.
Six Nations Development manages interests in 28 energy projects and several economic development opportunities in and around the Six Nations Reserve, making it the largest Indigenous holder of battery storage assets in North America. This includes a 2.5 GW energy portfolio spanning five battery storage, seven solar and 14 wind projects.
Boralex, for its part, is a renewable energy provider with more than 35 years of experience, occupying leadership positions in Canada and France, standing as the latter’s largest independent producer of onshore wind power. The company has increased its installed capacity by more than 50 per cent over the past five years, reaching 3,403 MW as of today, with 8 GW worth of projects in its development and construction pipeline. Following Hagersville’s commissioning, Boralex’s total operational storage capacity reached 380 MW/1,520 MWh, making it Canada’s largest battery storage operator.
The Hagersville project, supporting Haldimand County through a community benefit agreement, was recently named Innovative Clean Energy Project of the Year by the Canadian Renewable Energy Association, recognizing its critical role in stabilizing the Ontario grid. An official inauguration is planned for Spring 2026.
According to Friday’s news release, Boralex and Six Nations Development will now turn their attention to their next collaborative project, the 125 MW/500 MWh Oxford project, also in Ontario, which is slated to begin construction imminently.
